Oroville Dam Auxiliary Spillway Incident

For Immediate Release

February 12, 2017  9:00 PM

The Colusa County Sheriff, Office of Emergency Services has opened its Emergency Operations Center and is monitoring the Oroville Dam Spillway incident in Butte County.  It appears Butte County has issued evacuation orders for the Oroville area and other communities and areas that are downstream along the Feather River.

The Colusa County Sheriff, Office of Emergency Services has not received an official request for assistance or mutual aid at this time.  There does not appear to be any immediate concerns to residents of Colusa County at this time but we will keep residents apprised should things change.

There has been erroneous information circulating through the media which concerns an emergency evacuation center being opened at the Colusa County Fairgrounds.  Given Colusa County’s absence of medical facilities, limited available ground ambulance resources, and high river levels within the county, no emergency evacuation centers are being independently opened by the County at this time.
